The Venture Unit is that section for older scouts aged over 16. The Grand Howl, indoor games and the patrol system are a few things we don't do any more. In the Unit we self plan the adventure, the fun and the learning. Being of smaller number then the Troop or Pack in the Unit you can more easily plan the activities, under the guidelines of the Venture Leader.
You will discover your abilities in planning, decision making and scout craft. You will learn to read a map, use a compass and find your way in unknown areas. You will find the joy of helping others through fund raising activities or charity work. You will get to pitch tents, cook your planned menu and exhaust yourself on expeditions. And in the meantime you are becoming an assertive citizen, a determined leader and of strong will power.
Our aim at the 1st Birkirkara is to keep these goals within reach of all unit members. For this purpose the unit meets on weekly basis at the HQ, every Tuesday at 19:00. All other members have their roles and responsibilities being chairman, secretary, treasurer or quarter master. In this way all members are important part of the team. During the meeting the ventures come up with an idea, plan and execute it, being a camping, hike or badge work.
To ensure order and discipline the Unit drew a set of Ground Rules. Being drawn by the members themselves, these rules are much easier to remember and observe. And in the end they will only serve to help the meeting run smoothly and make all members feel at ease within the group. Apart from these rules the Venture Leader will also make sure that the Scout Law and Group Rules are observed.
The Venture Scout Training Program is a program issued by the Island Head Quarters as guide lines for the Units to plan the awards to be achieved. These are:
